A-Lodge 🏔️ Boulder Colorado

After hiking the Boulder, Colorado Flatirons on a sunny March weekend, I stopped in to visit A-Lodge in Boulder, and was met with the charming rustic-chic vibe you might expect from this iconic town. Imagine showing up in Boulder, Colorado with the aim of connecting with nature and like-minded people. The short drive from town up Boulder canyon, leaves you feeling like you’re miles away, when in fact, you could easily ride back into town on one of A-Lodge’s ebikes. The rushing river beneath the bridge you cross to reach the office promises an opportunity for fly fishing, the massive trees that line the road, provide shade from the intensity of the Colorado sun.

Nestled in the heart of the mountains, A-Lodge is more than just a place to stay—it’s a community, an experience, and a hub for adventure. The company was founded on the belief that outdoor hospitality should seamlessly blend with nature while fostering a strong sense of belonging among guests and staff alike.

A Lodge, Boulder, Colorado

A-Lodge’s mission, as described by its founder, is to create an environment where adventurers, travelers, and nature enthusiasts can come together, share experiences, and form lasting connections. Their goal is not just to provide lodging but to cultivate an atmosphere of camaraderie and inspiration, ensuring that every guest leaves with a story worth telling.

Originally known as the Wagon Wheel Lodge in the 1950s and later the Boulder Mountain Lodge, the property underwent a transformation when Chris and Asa took over in 2015, shaping it into the beloved A-Lodge it is today. With 29 keys—including two rooms dedicated to Boulder’s only hostel—the lodge welcomes a diverse range of guests, from international travelers to local adventurers.

The property effortlessly marries rustic elements with contemporary touches, creating a vibe that is both nostalgic and stylish. One of the standout features? The ski cable from Aspen, repurposed into an eye-catching design element. Thanks to a connection with BJ, a local metal fabricator, these pieces find new life in A-Lodge’s decor—an aesthetic choice that adds to the lodge’s unique character.

Company culture is at the heart of A-Lodge’s success. The team operates with a deep respect for nature, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for hospitality. Employees are encouraged to bring their own creativity and personality into their roles, making each interaction with guests unique and memorable. Collaboration, authenticity, and a shared love for the outdoors drive the A-Lodge experience, creating a space where both employees and visitors thrive.

At A-Lodge, the philosophy extends beyond simply offering a place to sleep. The company is built on a foundation of adventure, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. From organizing group hikes and outdoor excursions to supporting local businesses and sustainability initiatives, A-Lodge is dedicated to creating a positive impact on both its guests and the surrounding environment. They have legitimately embraced the concept of an “adventure concierge,” offering guests an unparalleled experience that extends beyond the lodge’s cozy walls.

What truly sets them apart is a direct access to adventure. While many boutique hotels boast about proximity to natural wonders, A-Lodge offers experiences right from the doorstep. A private trail leads guests straight to Betasso Nature Preserve, making it easy to hit the trails without needing to drive or arrange transportation.

For those who prefer organized excursions, Dylan and his team collaborate with Colorado Wilderness Rides and Guides, facilitating seamless outdoor experiences such as rock climbing in Boulder Canyon, rafting in Clear Creek, and hiking in the Flatirons. A-Lodge also operates its own shuttle, further enhancing convenience for guests looking to explore Boulder’s stunning terrain.

The founders envision this gorgeous property as a sanctuary where people can reconnect with nature while enjoying modern comforts. The accommodations reflect this vision, blending rustic charm with thoughtful amenities that enhance the outdoor experience. Whether it’s a cozy cabin, a riverside tent, or a communal firepit where stories are shared under the stars, every element is designed to foster a deep connection with the natural world.

Beyond lodging, A-Lodge fosters a sense of community among guests and locals alike. Live music, curated by a talented local musician and her band, fills the evenings with bluegrass and open jam sessions. Weekly group runs take participants through the scenic trails of Chautauqua, while adventure yoga sessions—complete with live DJ sets—create a truly immersive outdoor wellness experience.

The lodge also offers a range of accommodations, including 11 campsites (eight walk-in and three vehicle-accessible) that cater to van lifers and campers. Whether staying in a room, hostel, or campsite, visitors can enjoy a beer garden, seasonal cookouts, and even wedding celebrations at the charming pavilion.

With a heated pool, hot tub, and sauna, A-Lodge provides a touch of comfort after a day of exploration. Whether guests are looking for high-energy adventure or a relaxing escape into nature, Dylan and the A-Lodge team have curated an experience that embodies the best of Boulder’s outdoor lifestyle.

For those seeking an authentic and adventure-driven stay, A-Lodge isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s a gateway to unforgettable mountain experiences. Go get some adventure!
